What it's about

Events are the building blocks of your family calendar – from the birthday party to the dentist.

Why it's here

Families juggle more events than any one person can hold in their head. So nothing slips through the cracks, and everyone involved knows when they need to be where, you keep it all in one place – with a clear who, when and where.

How it works

You enter a title, date and time (or all-day), and optionally a location and a note. For participants, you choose who in the household is coming along or affected – these people see the event in their view and are included for reminders. Optionally, you link resources such as the family car – the event then appears in the calendar in that resource's colour. Visibility controls who sees the event at all; repeats turn a regular event into a series.

Directions to the event location

The Location field is deliberately free text: it can say “Kitchen”, a meeting room, or simply an address. If patchio recognises an address in the location – a house number, a postcode, or a street name – a directions icon appears next to the field. Tapping it opens the location in your maps app: on Android, in your choice of navigation apps; on iPhone, in Maps; on a computer, in Google Maps.

If the location holds a video call link instead, it turns into an open icon that launches the link in your browser. And for “Kitchen” or “Sports hall”, no icon appears at all – there's no route to those. If you want one, write the full address in the field.

If patchio recognises an address with a postcode there, you can also show the weather alongside the directions – via its own button that only loads on tap, and only sends the city to the weather service, never the full address. Just as with the directions icon: without a recognisable address, this button doesn't appear either – and unlike the directions icon, a street and house number alone aren't enough here: without a postcode, there's no city to extract that the weather service understands.

In practice

You create “Dentist” on 12 June at 14:30, choose your child and yourself as participants, and link the family car as the vehicle. Your partner sees the event in the calendar but doesn't get a reminder – they aren't a participant.
