Attachments on events

What it's about

You can now attach photos and PDFs to any event – the note from the doctor, a booking confirmation, a photo of a parking ticket. Everything sits right on the event, no more filing it away separately.

How it works

Open an event in its view (not the edit form) – further down you'll find the “Attachments” section. “Add attachment” lets you pick a photo or a PDF file; patchio resizes photos automatically before uploading, PDFs stay as they are. Up to 10 attachments per event, and each file can be at most 10 MB. Tap an attachment to open it in a new tab or window.

The name starts out as the file name. “IMG_4711.jpg” won't mean anything to anyone later – so tap the pencil next to an attachment and give it a name that says what it is. Enter saves, Esc discards. The file itself stays untouched.

Who sees what

Whoever can see the event with all its details can also see its attachments. A babysitter can see events, but not attachments – babysitter access doesn't go that far. For a private event, only you see your attachments, no matter who else is in the household.

Recurring events

For a recurring series, it depends where you upload: attach a file to a regular occurrence, and it applies to the whole series, showing up on every occurrence – you only maintain it once. Change a single occurrence on its own (say, move it to a different time just for that day), and an attachment you upload there applies only to that occurrence.

Split a series “from here on” and the attachments come along: from the chosen day a new series runs, but it still shows the attachments of the previous one – nothing to upload again. That holds for a second split too. Whatever you upload AFTER the split belongs to the new series and won't show up on the events before it.

Deleting

Anyone who can edit the event can delete and rename its attachments. Tapping the trash icon next to an attachment asks for confirmation first – once the file is gone, it's gone for good. If an event is only shared with you, you can view its attachments but not change them.

Privacy

Attachments live in a private storage area, not publicly reachable. Delete the event or the series, and its attachments go with it.
