Birthdays

The birthday list brings together every birthday in one place: from family members, from directory contacts, and from standalone occasions you add directly here. The next occasion always sits at the top as a large card in that person's colour. The countdown always appears as a short phrase – “Today 🎂”, “Tomorrow”, “5 days to go”, or further out “in 200 days” – never as a bare number next to the age: the two could otherwise be mixed up. The closer the day, the bolder the countdown's colour; everything else steps back quietly. The thin ring around each photo fills in as the day gets closer, and milestone birthdays carry a 🌟.

Search, filter, sort

The search bar helps you find a person quickly. Filter narrows things down by type (birthday, anniversary, celebration) and by source (members, contacts, your own occasions). You can sort by next birthday (grouped by month from today), by name (one continuous list from A to Z) or by date in the year (months from January to December).

Add your own occasion

With +, you add a birthday independent of the directory – with a name, date, optional photo, reminder and note. It then appears in the list and as a yearly event in the calendar. For birthdays, anniversaries and all-day celebrations, patchio reminds you on the day or a few days before; only a celebration with a set time also offers short lead times such as “30 min before”.

Types: birthday, anniversary, celebration

With +, you first choose the type: Birthday (yearly), Anniversary (a yearly anniversary, e.g. a wedding anniversary) or Celebration (one-off or repeating, all-day or with a time). All three sit together in the list and appear on the right day in the calendar.

Colour, participants, visibility

You can give anniversaries and celebrations a colour – it also shows up in the calendar. You can assign participants from your household – each person appears once, even if they belong to several households – and use visibility to control who sees the occasion (the whole household, selected people, or private). A private occasion only shows up for you: in the birthday list, in the calendar and on the printout. Handy for a surprise that someone in your own household shouldn't see in advance. For a private celebration, patchio only reminds you – participants you've added don't get a notification.

Editing the detail

On the right (on your phone, after tapping), the detail card celebrates the person: a countdown to the next birthday; for birthdays, a small profile (star sign, day of the week they were born, age in days, next milestone birthday); plus a tappable reminder selector and two note fields: Gift ideas & notes (“Visible to everyone”) and, below it, Only for you – which no one else reads (see “Private notes on birthdays”). You change the photo via the camera icon on the avatar, and the date via the pencil icon. For members and contacts, you change the name through the relevant module.

Printing

With Print / PDF, you get a sheet of all birthdays to hang up. Before printing you choose the layout (year sheet with twelve month boxes, or a list by date), a design (confetti, bunting, balloons, plain or no picture), the intensity (“Light” saves ink) and the format, A4 portrait or landscape. A preview of the sheet appears below. The next birthday is highlighted, and if the birth year is known, the age the person reaches this year is shown. Anniversaries show which anniversary it is, celebrations show no number. Long lists break cleanly across several pages. patchio remembers your choice.
