What it's about

You download your household's events as an .ics file and import them into another calendar (Google, Apple, Outlook) – or keep them as a backup.

Why it's here

Your data is yours. An export with no hurdles is a promise of trust: you're not locked in. And sometimes you just want to see your family's events in your work calendar too.

How it works

On the Export & subscribe page, you'll find the “Calendar file (.ics)” card. The person filter lets you choose whose events go into the file. One click downloads the file; series stay intact as real repeating events. Printing, by the way, has its own page – in the calendar via the ⋯ menu → “Print”.

Getting the file into your calendar

  • Google Calendar (on a computer): next to “Other calendars”, click the “+” → “Import” → choose the file → pick the target calendar → “Import”.
  • Apple Calendar (Mac): “File” → “Import…” → choose the .ics file. On iPhone/iPad, tap the file and choose “Add All”.
  • Outlook: “Add calendar” → “Upload from file” → choose the .ics file.

The events land as a copy in the target calendar. Later changes in patchio don't carry over automatically – to get an up-to-date copy, just export again.

Confidentiality

Other family members' private events never end up in your file – not even as “busy” placeholders. Your own private events are only included in your own export.

In practice

You export the family calendar and import it into your Google Calendar so you can see the events at work too. Your partner's doctor's appointment, marked as private, isn't included in your file.

Subscribe to the calendar (always up to date)

Unlike the one-off download, you can subscribe to your patchio calendar via a link – new and changed events then appear automatically in Google, Apple or Outlook. You generate the subscription link on the “Export & subscribe” page (“Subscribe to calendar”), copy it (or use “Open in calendar”), and add it in your calendar app as a URL subscription.

The link is private – whoever has it can see your calendar. Don't share it publicly. You can regenerate it at any time (the old link stops working immediately) or turn it off. The feed contains your current household; other people's private events are never included.

Show tasks in the subscription

Below the subscription link you'll find the switch “Show tasks with a due date”. When it's on, your open tasks with a due date also appear in the subscription as events, each prefixed with “Aufgabe:”. A task with only a date shows up as an all-day event; a task with a time gets a short 15-minute event. Completed and deleted tasks are left out. For repeating tasks you only see the next open occurrence. Only tasks you're allowed to see in patchio make it into the feed – other people's private tasks never do.

In your calendar the tasks are view-only: ticking them off and editing them still happens in patchio. And calendar apps refresh subscriptions on their own schedule, usually every few hours, so a new or completed task shows up there with a delay.
