What it's about
Camping, the pool, a bike trip: the same packing list, worked out from scratch every time. In patchio you write a template once, attach it to the event it belongs to, and tick it off there – together, everyone on their own device.
Creating templates
Templates belong to the household and live in the tasks hub: “Tasks” → “Manage” → “Checklists”. Give the template a name and write the items underneath each other, one per line. Up to 50 templates per household, up to 100 items per template. You need the “Manage lists” permission for this – without it you still see the templates on an event, but you can't create them.
Already when creating
You don't have to save first and reopen the event: when creating a new event, you'll find a “Checklists” section under “Advanced” and can pick one or more templates right there. They attach to the event automatically once it's saved – for a new series, to the whole series. If you create the event offline, the selection doesn't apply right away; a note tells you so, and you attach the templates afterwards once the event has been saved online.
Attaching one to an event
Open an event in its view (not the edit form). Below the attachments you'll find “Checklists” and there “Add checklist”: either from a template or as an empty list with a name of your own. Up to 10 lists per event.
A list made from a template is a copy: change it on the event and the template stays as it was – and the other way round. “Save as template” turns a list on an event back into a template for the household.
Ticking off
Anyone who can see the event with all its details can tick items off – including the other household you shared the event with. Above the list you see how far you've got (“3 of 7”). Adding, renaming or deleting items, on the other hand, is for people who can edit the event.
“Clear all ticks” empties the ticks of a list again – handy for a recurring series whose packing list starts over every week.
Recurring events
For a recurring series it depends where you create the list: create it on a regular occurrence and it applies to the whole series, showing up on every occurrence – you only maintain it once, and the ticks are the same for every occurrence. Change a single occurrence on its own (say, move it to a different time just for that day), and a list you create there applies only to that occurrence.
Split a series “from here on” and the lists come along: from the chosen day a new series runs, but it still shows the lists of the previous one – nothing to create again. That holds for a second split too. Whatever you create AFTER the split belongs to the new series and won't show up on the events before it.
Who sees what
Whoever can see the event with all its details can also see its checklists. A babysitter can see events, but not checklists. For a private event, only you see your lists, no matter who else is in the household.
Deleting
Anyone who can edit the event can delete its lists; patchio asks for confirmation first. Delete the event or the series, and its lists go with it. Deleting a template, on the other hand, does not take the lists already attached to events with it – those stay where they are.
