What it's about

A single event turns into a series – daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or by more complex rules.

Why it's here

Many family events aren't a one-off: the weekly training session, the monthly parents' evening (Elternabend) on the “first Friday”, the yearly dental check-up. If you don't keep these as a series, you end up with data clutter and still forget them anyway. With repeats, you create the event once and it keeps turning up by itself.

How it works

You choose between daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, and optionally set an end (a date, a number of occurrences, or never-ending). For complex patterns, there are advanced rules like “every first Friday of the month” or “last working day of the quarter”. Changes to a single occurrence can be limited to just that one event, applied to it and everything after it, or applied to the whole series – the same goes for deleting.

When you change or delete a single event from a series, you get three options. Only this event affects just that one occurrence – the rest of the series stays as it was. The whole series changes or deletes every occurrence, from start to end. In between is This and all following events: the existing series ends the day before this event, and a new series starts on this day with your changes. Earlier events stay untouched, including ones you already moved or cancelled individually – occurrences from the chosen day onward that you had already changed or cancelled move into the new series and stay. Deleting works the same way in reverse: earlier events stay in the calendar, and the chosen event plus everything after it disappears. If the chosen event is already the first one in the series, “and all following” is the same as the whole series anyway, so the option does not appear. Birthdays and occasions that patchio manages as their own series do not offer this choice – you manage those through the person or the occasion instead.

In practice

Your sports club meets “every first Friday of the month at 19:00”. You set this up once and reliably see the event every month for as long as the app exists – whether the first Friday happens to be the 6th or the 1st.
