What it's about

The bell at the top shows you at a glance what's happening in your family: tasks due (with an optional heads-up beforehand), new tasks for you and declined tasks, upcoming events, changes in the parenting schedule, new items on the shopping list, and notices from the patchio team – all in one place.

Why it's here

So you don't miss anything important without checking every list separately. The bell collects everything relevant to you and highlights what you haven't seen yet.

How it works

The number on the bell shows how many unread entries you have. Tap the bell to open your notifications. On desktop, a window opens straight away; on your phone, you land on the overview page. The overview page shows every notification with its full text, while the bell window cuts it off after two lines.

Each entry also shows when it arrived – just the time for today, the date as well for anything older.

Unread entries are marked. Tap an entry to jump straight to where it belongs – to the event or the task, say – and it's then marked as read. “Mark all as read” clears everything in one go.

Don't need an entry any more? Remove it with the “×” next to it – it disappears from the list and the count. “Remove all” clears the whole list at once (with a quick check first, so nothing vanishes by accident). Removing isn't the same as reading: read entries stay in the list, removed ones are gone (and can't be restored in the app).

Notifications on Mac, PC and in the browser

Want to hear about things even when patchio isn't open? On a computer you don't need an app: open Profile → Notifications and, under “Notifications on this device”, tap Turn on for this device. Your browser asks once whether patchio may send notifications – allow it, and alerts appear on your screen from then on. Clicking one opens patchio right where it belongs.

  • Per device: it only applies to the browser you turn it on in. For a second computer, turn it on there as well.
  • What comes through: which topics arrive as notifications is set in the same list, in the Push column – that applies to all your devices, including the app on your phone.
  • Discreet: the screen only shows a general sentence such as “A task is waiting for you.” – no names, no amounts, no health details. You only see the details in patchio.
  • iPhone and iPad: it doesn't work in a normal Safari tab. First add patchio via Share → Add to Home Screen, open it from there and then turn it on in your profile.
  • Blocked? If you once declined the browser's question, allow notifications for patchio again in your browser settings.
  • Turning it off: tap Turn off in your profile – or sign out. When you sign out, patchio removes the device automatically, so nobody else sees your notifications on a shared family computer.

In practice

Say you see a “3” on the bell in the morning. Open the list: a task due, a new event at the weekend, and three new items on the shopping list. Tap the event and you land straight in the calendar – read.
