What it's about
The tasks area is your control centre for tasks. On mobile, you open a tile and see that list; on desktop, the sidebar stays visible on the left and the detail changes on the right.
Switching areas at the top
Right at the top there's a small switcher bar – similar to the month/week switcher in the calendar:
- Tasks – your lists and tasks (this page).
- Points – points balance and redeeming rewards (only if the points module is on).
- Task hub – the scaffolding for tasks: creating lists, categories and rewards.
That keeps the main menu on the left lean, and everything to do with tasks is up here.
Three fixed tiles, plus your own
Three tiles are the same in every household:
- All tasks – every open task across all lists. Handy as a daily overview.
- Shopping – a quick link to the shopping list. Shows how many items are still open.
- Overdue (always at the bottom) – gathers everything that's missed its due date. Turns red once something's piled up.
Below that – and this is the part you shape yourself – sit the actual lists you create (e.g. “Household”, “School”, “Garden”). Each with its own icon, colour and visibility.
Right at the bottom, under all the tiles, is “Create a list” – in the sidebar on desktop, below the overview on mobile.
Detail view: header, filter, sort
When you're inside a list, you see at the top:
- Left: the list icon + name. Tapping it opens the edit dialogue (the pencil icon next to it gives it away). For “All tasks” and “Overdue” there's naturally nothing to edit – there, the header is just a label.
- Right: a + button to add a new task straight into this list.
- Below that, on the right: two small icons – a filter icon and a sort icon.
Tapping the filter opens a sheet where you set status, assignment, priority, type (one-off vs recurring) and category. Active filters show as a small number on the filter icon. The sort icon sets the order (due date ascending/descending, priority, name, date added) – your choice sticks until you change it again.
You can spot recurring tasks by the small ↻ symbol right after the title.
Tapping a task: the view first
Tap a task in a list and it opens as a view first – just like calendar events. You only see what's actually set: due date, list, category, assigned people and anything else that applies. Empty fields stay hidden. Right at the top you tick the task off directly in the view – if it's awaiting confirmation, the checkbox is disabled and you see who ticked it off. Only someone else can confirm it: you never approve your own tick. Only the “Edit” button takes you to the full form with every field.
Mobile vs desktop
- Mobile: you tap a tile, and the detail view opens as its own page. The browser's back button (or the swipe gesture) takes you back to the overview.
- Desktop: the sidebar always stays visible on the left (about a third of the width). You click a list, and the detail changes on the right – the lists work like a filter. By default, the detail shows “All tasks” when you open it.
In practice
You open patchio on your phone in the morning, see All tasks (12 open), tap it and filter to “Me” – four tasks for you today. Done. In the evening, you check the Overdue tile (should be empty) and tap Shopping, because someone just flagged that you're out of eggs.
