What it's about

A task is a concrete to-do with people responsible for it, an optional due date, and a mode that decides who takes it on.

Why it's here

Just saying “take the bins out” into the room means someone's asking three hours later why nobody did it. With a task, you say exactly: what needs doing, who's doing it, by when. patchio does that with minimal effort and maximum clarity – including for blended-family set-ups, where “whose turn it is” isn't always obvious.

How it works

You give the task a title, assign it to a list and optionally choose a category. Priority (low, normal, high) sets the sort order and the points default. You can set an optional due date (a date, optionally a time). For assignees, you choose who's responsible – and, via the mode (Fixed, Rotation, First come first served), how it gets distributed. If points are on for a child and that child is an assignee, the points follow from the priority; you can override them at any time. You can also link resources like the family car.

Reminder in advance

When you set a due date, you can also get a heads-up beforehand: under Reminder in advance, choose 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 or 14 days before. With the Daily until it's due switch, you get the reminder every day from then on until the task is done. Example: due on 17 Oct, “3 days before” and daily – you're reminded on 14, 15 and 16 Oct. On the due date itself you still get the usual “Due” notification. The Tasks due switch in your profile covers both.

These notifications apply to every task – household, group, cross-household or private. They go to the assigned people who are allowed to see the task. If nobody is assigned, patchio notifies everyone in the household for household tasks, and you as the creator for all other tasks. A private task only ever reminds you.

In practice

You create “Empty the dishwasher” with priority “normal” and one of the children as the assignee. Points default to 5. It's due every evening – after that, it reappears the next morning.
