Who can see the grades?

Who can see the grades?

Grades are sensitive. That's why you can set, per child, who's allowed to see them – and patchio sticks to it strictly, right down to the database. You'll find the setting in the assistant, and any time under the Grades tab.

There are two options:

  • The family – everyone who can manage school (admins and members with the “Manage school” permission) sees the grades and averages. The child themselves, of course, too.
  • Only the child – the grades stay with the child, nobody else sees them, not even an admin.

Important: the dates stay visible to the whole family either way. Only the grades are affected. That's exactly why patchio keeps the date and the grade apart – you can all look ahead to the next test together, without anyone seeing grades they're not meant to see.

The age recommendation

Once a child is ten or older, patchio gives a friendly nudge in the assistant: many families hand grade-keeping over from here – the child enters them, the parents look on. From 14, this applies: grades are the child's data; talk about it before you read along. What suits you is your call – it's only a hint, not a rule.

“Only the child” needs its own login

This setting only works if the child has their own login. Otherwise, nobody could reach the grades at all in the end. If the child doesn't have a login yet, you set one up under Manage → Family; until then, this option stays locked. And as long as “Only the child” is active, the child still needs their login – take it away, and the grades would become unreachable.

Never in secret

Parents decide on visibility – but never quietly. Every change is logged, and the child is shown it: next time they open School – whichever tab – a banner at the top says something like “Mum set it so the family can see your grades”. It stays there until the child taps “Got it”. Each device remembers that separately, so on another device the banner shows up once more. This works both ways and can't be bypassed – the entry is created in the database itself, not just in the app. So nobody can briefly open up visibility, read the grades and close it again without the child finding out.

Only whoever can manage school is allowed to change the setting. patchio enforces that on the server too.

Children in two households

If a child belongs to two households (blended family), they can only maintain their own school profile in whichever household is currently their active one. Switch the household at the top, and access lines up again.
