Documents & driving licence

Document vault per vehicle

You can store documents against each vehicle – registration certificate part I (Fahrzeugschein, ZB I), registration certificate part II (Fahrzeugbrief, ZB II), insurance policy, purchase contract, invoices, HU (the German roadworthiness test, like the MOT) report, or warranty. Images and PDFs are allowed. You open the vault in the vehicle once it's created: choose a file, set a category and optionally a title and date, and upload. Documents are stored encrypted in EU storage and inherit the vehicle's visibility – anyone who can't see the vehicle can't see its documents either.

Driving licence vault

In the “Driving licences” section under vehicles, you record categories, licence number, issue and expiry date, plus a scan or photo, per person. Enter a valid-until date, and patchio warns you in good time before the licence expires.

Who sees what: a driving licence is sensitive – it's visible only to the person themselves and to household admins, not the whole family. You can add your own licence yourself; admins can also maintain an entry for other members.

Deleting – what happens

Deleting a document removes the entry and the file together. This needs the permission to manage vehicles, and write access – once your trial or subscription has run out, everything stays readable, but nothing can be deleted any more. If you're not allowed to right now, patchio tells you and leaves both in place: it can't happen that the scan is gone while the entry stays in the list.

The same applies to the driving licence: deleting the entry also removes the stored scan and the calendar event “Driving licence expires”, along with its reminders. Either all three go, or none of them.
