What it's about
Resources are things or animals that belong to your household and can be linked to tasks or events – the family dog, the car, the motorhome kit.
Why it's here
Some tasks aren't about people, but objects: “car in for its HU” (the German roadworthiness test, like the MOT), “feed the dog”, “lawnmower in for service”. So you don't have to type it out freehand every time, and so you can later see how often the car was actually at the repair shop, resources exist in their own right.
How it works
You create a resource with a name and a kind. You can type the kind freely – the templates (Vehicle, Pet, Child, Other) stay there as a suggestion, but “Boat”, “Instrument” or “Nursery” work just as well. patchio suggests kinds you've already typed the next time.
Colour & calendar
Every resource can get its own bold colour – from a palette that exists only for resources, so you can tell them apart from people at a glance. Without a choice, patchio assigns a fixed colour automatically. Link an event to a resource, and it shows up in the calendar in that colour. If both a person and a resource are involved, the event shows a neutral bar with a multicoloured border and small icons for those involved. On your phone, you can also filter the calendar by a resource.
In practice
Set up “VW Caddy” as a resource, in Petrol. Save the annual service as an event linked to the Caddy, and it shows up in the calendar in Petrol. Filter by the Caddy on your phone, and you see every car-related event at a glance.
