Passive profiles (children, older relatives)
What it's about
Passive profiles are family members without their own login – meant for young children, older relatives, or anyone who doesn't use patchio themselves.
Why it's here
Not everyone should or can have their own account. A three-year-old doesn't have an email address, Grandma doesn't want to remember a password – and yet you need them as a person in your family: for birthdays, the emergency card, awarding points to children, appointments like the paediatrician. Because they don't have their own login, passive profiles also don't count towards your household's login limit (more in Manage members).
How it works
You create a passive profile with a name, optionally a date of birth, an avatar and a role. It shows up wherever family members appear – as a participant in events, as the recipient of tasks, on the emergency card. The role is just a label, not a function: “Parent”, “Partner” and “Housemate” fit any household, including couples without children or a shared flat. It's managed solely by you and the other admins; the person themselves never signs in anywhere. If a child gets older and gets their own account, you can link the passive profile to the new login – all points, tasks and data stay intact.
In practice
Set up a six-year-old as a passive profile. They get tasks, collect points, and appear on the emergency card – all without a login. When they get their first smartphone at 12, link their profile to the account created then.
