Getting started

Installing patchio on Mac and PC

What it's about

On a computer, you don't have to use patchio in a browser tab – you can install it like an app of its own: with its own window, its own icon in your Mac's Dock or the Windows taskbar, and it starts even without a connection. It's the same patchio with the same account – you don't need anything from a store.

Why it's here

If you plan the week at your desk, you don't want to hunt for patchio among twenty tabs every time. Installed, patchio is one click away and opens with the last state it loaded, even on the train or on shaky Wi-Fi.

How to do it

Mac with Safari (macOS Sonoma or later)

  1. Open app.patchio.de in Safari and sign in.
  2. In the menu bar, choose File → Add to Dock. You'll also find it behind the share icon at the top right.
  3. Confirm with Add. patchio now sits in your Dock and opens in a window of its own.

Chrome or Edge (Mac and Windows)

  1. Open app.patchio.de in Chrome or Edge and sign in.
  2. Click the Install icon on the right of the address bar (a small screen with an arrow). Can't see it? Use the browser menu (⋮ or …) → Install patchio – depending on the version, it sits under “Cast, save, and share” or “Apps”.
  3. Confirm with Install. patchio opens in a window of its own; right-click its icon to pin it to the taskbar or keep it in the Dock.

iPhone and iPad

Download the patchio app from the App Store and sign in with the same account as on your computer. On the iPhone, reminders also arrive as push notifications on your lock screen.

Mac App Store

On Macs with Apple silicon you'll also find patchio in the App Store on your Mac: search for “patchio”, download the app and sign in with your account. This is the iPad version in a Mac window, with push notifications like on iPhone. For the full layout with the sidebar, use Safari, Chrome or Edge.

Good to know

  • Notifications: On your computer you see reminders and family news in the bell at the top of patchio. If you turn on notifications for this device in your profile under “Notifications”, they also appear on your desktop, even when patchio isn't open.
  • Signing out: When you sign out, patchio deletes the data stored on this device – including changes made offline that haven't been sent yet. If you've been working without a connection, only sign out once patchio has been back online.
  • Updates: The installed app picks up new features automatically the next time it starts with a connection.
  • Firefox: Firefox doesn't yet offer installing sites as apps on every computer. patchio runs perfectly well in a Firefox tab.
  • Removing it: On a Mac, delete the app from your Applications folder in Finder; in Chrome and Edge, choose Uninstall from the menu in the app window. Your data stays in your account.

In practice

Every Sunday, Jonas plans the week on his laptop: patchio sits in the Dock, one click, and the calendar and meal plan are open. Whatever he adds there, his partner sees on her iPhone straight away.
